5 Healthy Foods You Can Carry in Your Bag When Travelling

We do a lot of traveling every day. Be it traveling to the office every day, going out of the station, or simply visiting our beloved hometown during the weekend. Due to a shortage of time, we usually tend to eat unhealthy, high-calorie foods from outside. This results in weight gain along with ailments of the stomach, high blood pressure, sugar and so on. It is always best to carry some food in our travel bag which curbs hunger and are healthy for the body as well. Below is a list of 5 such things one can carry in their travel bag.

  1. Seeds & nuts

Dry fruits and seeds are hassle free and non-messy to carry. They curb hunger in no time and supply necessary nutrients. Always carry a box of raw or roasted nuts like cashews, almonds, pistachios, and walnuts. Roasted pumpkin seeds, chickpeas or sunflower seeds are also great options.

  1. Fruit & Veggie chips

Fruit and vegetable chips are readily available in the market. However, baking some right at home couldn’t get easier. Fruits like apples and pears or vegetables like sweet potatoes, tapioca or even green leaves like spinach and kale, cut into thin slices and baked in the oven does well. Sprinkle a tiny bit of salt and pepper as per taste and spread thinly on your baking sheet. You could also add a mixture of dry roasted and ground spices like cumin, chilies, and cinnamon for a kick of flavors. Make sure to pat dry the veggies with a paper towel to soak up all the excess liquid.

Fruit leathers are available in the market. They are usually made with reduced fruit pulp, spread out in thin sheets and allowed to dry. Make sure to check for added preservatives, colors and flavors. You could also do the same at home. Puree your favorite fruit and reduce it down until it thickens. Spread it thinly on a buttered sheet or pan and let it cool down. Cut into little stripes or pieces and they’re good to go.

Cheese cubes are a great fulfilling snack. You could go for string cheese or any other kind of cheese you love. Just check for preservative and salt content. Be a little precautious because though cheese is tempting and healthier than many other options, they’re high in calories. So just a single piece or cube is enough to control hunger pangs.

  1. Homemade multigrain bars

This is probably the healthiest option on the list. It can be made just by mixing in some cereals like cornflakes, rice flakes, roasted oats, wheat flakes, nuts and seeds along with a binding agent like honey. You could also add dried fruits like raisins, dried strawberries or blueberries. So, go ahead and mix in some of your favorite cereals and nuts, bind it with honey and chill in the refrigerator. They can be stored for 2-3 days and kick in a bout of energy immediately.

Besides the options listed above, you could always carry some boiled eggs, veggie sticks, salads or even fruits of your choice.
